The Ueno Sakura Matsuri is one of Tokyo's finest.
Every year, hundreds of cherry trees in Ueno Park blossom into a snowy display of pink petals. And each spring, tens of thousands of people come back with their blue tarps, never tiring of this annual ritual.
In typical hanami (flower viewing) tradition, Ueno Park becomes a non-stop picnic party site from the end of March through the beginning of April, with over 1,500 lanterns strewn across the park and hundreds of vendors selling everything from yakitori to candied apples.
Ueno Park expects visitors to peak during the designated cherry blossom viewing-window this year, March 19 to April 10, 2011.
March 19 to April 10, 2011, 10 a.m-8 p.m., Ueno Park, free, more info at Tel: +81 3 3833 0030 and online (www.ueno.or.jp)
