Contrary to popular misconception, this isn't the Tokyo Booth Babe Show -- so spare some attention for the cars, too
It’s that time of year again as the famed Tokyo Motor Show comes to town, and for the first time in over 20 years it will actually be taking place in Tokyo (as opposed to neighboring Chiba).
The show kicks off with the opening parade, in which executives from participating companies drive down the central promenade in fifty of their most impressive vehicles, from the Mitsubishi Mirage to a Hino Dutro hybrid.
The test ride program, offered in the outdoor space, allows visitors to put a lineup of 36 cars -- including AMG, Citroen and Porsche vehicles -- through their paces. If two-wheelers are more your speed, test courses will also be set up for motorcycles and electricity-assisted bicycles.
For a virtually enhanced experience, Sony will be offering a booth to try out “Gran Turismo 5,” the latest installment in the popular video game franchise.
If you’re in need of a touch of nostalgia (or just need a break from the ubiquitous “booth babes”), treat yourself to a good old-fashioned Soap Box Derby. Kids and parents can assemble one of the wooden cars provided, and then compete in time trials along a 10 meter-long track.
