Pension Animale: Nikko's pet-friendly inn

A blogger reports on an inn in Tochigi Prefecture where travelling with cats and dogs is more than welcome

Tochigi Prefecture-based blogger Anna Ikeda recently took a trip to nearby Nikko, thinking she would take her cats in tow. While most hotels in Japan are not particularly welcoming to house pets, Ikeda discovered Pension Animale (Tokorono 1541-432, Nikko-shi, Tochigi Prefecture, tel. 0288 54 1717), an inn created specifically for travelers accompanied by pets.

In contrast to many 'pet-friendly' establishments, Pension Animale allows animals to roam anywhere on the premises and also is okay with cats. Rooms with cat owners are equipped with litter boxes. And the onsen baths are open to pets -- not that cats are going to be accompanying you.

On top of the normal Japanese inn experience, Pension Animale offers a French cuisine for dinner cooked by the inn's owner -- but we are pretty sure that's just for humans.
