Hotel New Otani: All about the gardens
Although the hotel dates bac to the early 1960s, the gardens have been in Tokyo for over 400 years.Hotel New Otani, along with the Imperial and the Okura, completes Tokyo's triumvirate of classic luxury hotels, and thanks to a recent renovation, the New Otani strongly competes with the international luxury chains for high-end clientele.
The rooms are posh, but the hotel's real draw is its 400-year-old Japanese gardens. Everyone in Tokyo should be able to claim to have seen the gardens in person.
An easy way to do that is via the Garden Lounge restaurant inside the hotel. With wide windows overlooking the gardens, the peace and tranquility of this giant green expanse can be enjoyed over coffee and cake. Breakfast starts at ¥1,890, with the cake set going for ¥1,785 and up.
At night, the gardens are less visible, so hightail it to the 40th floor for a nightcap at The Bar.
