Uniqlo Calendar: Miniaturizing Japan
In this particular Uniqlo Calendar scene we see a tilt-shift video of the daily penguin walk at Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido. The Uniqlo Calendar originally launched in early summer 2009, offering viewers a moving stream of fast-motion tilt-shift video scenes captured from across Japan. This was the follow-up to the apparel company's award-winning web promotion Uniqlock, featuring young females dancing in time with every second of the day.
On January 27, 2010, Uniqlo released its fourth package of videos for the site -- this time all winter scenes. The highlights include snowy streetcars in Hakodate, the big rubber duck in Osaka, horse racing in Hokkaido, coming-of-age day in Nakano, animals at the Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido and even brave surfers in Kamakura. There is an emphasis on winter sports such as curling, sledding and skiing.
And thanks to the snowy winter theme, the northern island of Hokkaido gets a lot more attention than usual.
The only problem with the site is that calenders are supposed to help you plan your day better. Thanks to the great videos and fun music from Fantastic Plastic Machine, this Uniqlo Calendar is a massive time suck.
