With that giant poster of Che Guevara, Tokyo Hipsters Club has turned your dorm room into a retail operation.
Tokyo Hipsters Club has little interest in the 'hip' paradox: i.e., you can’t buy into 'hip,' and once you’ve identified something as 'hip,' it’s no longer 'hip.' Instead the store has put its energy into building a collection of eternally hip products from The Beat Generation, Che Guevara and other past revolutionaries, both artistic and political.
Inside this first architectural project by Tom Dixon, customers can pick up a Woody Guthrie CD, flip through Jack Kerouac’s "On The Road" or buy a ¥26,000 leather wallet. (Allen Ginsberg is probably rolling in his grave, but hey, maybe he can make an exception for Tokyo, the city where cool and commerce are never in conflict.)
For those hipster purists who would like to keep fighting the power, avoid the shopping and head to Cafe Liberté on the rooftop garden terrace for a drink instead.
