Spiral Market specializes in extremely simple and minimal interior goods, but adds a bit of wow with short-run exhibitions.
The Japanese retail experience often feels more like museum visitation rather than commercial transaction, and Spiral Market in Aoyama ups the ante on this "collection" approach. The shop is a home-grown Japanese version of the Conran Shop, but more sophisticated and imaginative.
Spiral Market is divided into six scenes: working, eating, lounging, healing, wearing and wrapping. Fusing art with everyday life, the store offers artisan-made hand soaps, charming gift cards, the latest designer vases, small pouches of exotic tea and regular exhibitions.
A purchase has an added bonus: getting to watch the store's experts wrap goods with the utmost care and craft.
