Flying Books offers shelf after shelf of impenetrable Japanese tomes on modern art, but the pictures are very pretty. (Photo by Flickr user liljetjennie)
Flying Books is the spot to hit in those desperate times when you need to find vintage coffee table editions of avant-garde art and design books written in the movement's native language. Or perhaps a lengthy tome on the etymology of orthographic reform attempts at the Japanese language? Or maybe just some old issues of "Vanity Fair" when Cipe Pineles was the art director?
No matter how arcane the request, Flying Books is the best place to start. The immaculately curated and pleasantly decorated sunny shop is packed with printed matter for the discerning aesthete.
Flying Books' owner Kazuhiro Yamaji is fluent in English and will gladly help you find what you are seeking, be it rare Beat poetry or a Futurist tract.
