Akihabara Uchimizukko
For approximately one hour, Akiba will officially be the coolest neighborhood in Tokyo.

The Japanese summer tradition of uchimizu, or water-sprinkling, gets an Akihabara-style makeover this weekend at Uchimizukko Daishugo!

On July 31 the west side of Akihabara station will be filled with maids -- even more than usual. Now in its eighth year, the event draws girls from the area’s maid cafes, as well as your average woman-on-the-street cosplayers to douse the streets and cool the air.

The event is open to all and participants are encouraged to get into the spirit by dressing up in yukata or other costume. The only requirement is that you bring your own already-used water, such as leftover bath water (conservation!).

Just one liter of water sprinkled over a square meter can cool the air up to two degrees Celsius, so Akihabara is bound to be one of the coolest spots in the city.

July 31, 10:30 a.m. - 11:20 p.m. Akihabara. More info online.
