The entry sign is covered in antique copper engravings. A nearby security guard makes sure that you don't think about stealing them.
If you've ever pondered how the elaborate, richly-colored traditional Japanese artwork was -- and still is -- produced, take a gander at Tokyo's Printing Museum located in Toppan Printing's headquarters in Edogawabashi, Tokyo. Dedicated to the art of Japanese printing, the museum walks you through a collection of materials using hands-on explanations that trace the history of printing in Japan through five major eras. Curiosity still not satisfied? The museum features seasonal exhibitions that explore drilled-down elements of graphic design and printing history.
If you want to get your hands dirty -- literally -- and witness the museum's home-run highlight, you can attend traditional letterpress printing workshops led by master craftspeople. As if that's not cool enough, visitors to Toppan Printing's Tokyo Printing Museum can print their very own piece using one of the museum's fleet of antique proof presses.
Admission: adult ¥300, college students ¥200, middle and high school students ¥100, elementary school students and younger go free.
