Wild freak-out jam sessions with accompanying psychedelic visuals have become the standard at SuperDeluxe.

If you're cultured and social, you've already ended up at Tokyo's SuperDeluxe -- the event space and underground bar in Roppong -- at some point in your life. Yes, SuperDeluxe has been the epicenter of the city's art and music scene since its debut in 2003 and is a good place to run into the who's who of the underground.

The space was originally a spinoff from the event space called Deluxe, designed by Klein Dytham architects and the design collective, Namaiki, and now boasts a calendar packed with an eclectic mix of events from music to art installations; from spoken word to body painting. (I once attended a serious UFO-related event that seamlessly transformed into topless women chanting, to body painting, to a live psych-rock soundtrack.)

SuperDeluxe also holds the PechaKucha Night series of creative presentations -- on the last Wednesday of every month -- a format now adopted in over 200 cities around the world.

If you're jazzed on food while you're watching a show in SuperDeluxe's comfy low-slung couches, the bar menu offers basics, but can drain your mood and your wallet quickly.
