The Showa Retro Packaging Museum preserves common goods and products -- and yes, some old junk -- from the Japan's long Showa Period (1926 to 1989).
Located in the charming town of Ome, the Showa Retro Packaging Museum is a leisurely way to view the old consumer culture that has been completely swallowed by the "newer, brighter, faster" ethos of today's pop landscape.
Items on display are mostly everyday products such as candy, canned goods and medicine. Older Japanese visitors will most likely break into long yarns about having the exact same toothpaste...
To reach the museum: Take the JR Ome Line to Ome Station. The museum is three minutes walking from the station.
Entrance fee: adults ¥300, children ¥150
