Highlights from the Tokyo Motor Show

From freakish to functional (sort of), very experimental vehicles were unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show -- we have the pictures
Tokyo Motor Show 2009The press release didn't mention it, but the inspiration for Yamaha's EC-f motorcycle had to be the exterior of the Xbox 360.

The Tokyo Motor Show runs until November 4, but if you don't have time to go all the way out to Makuhari, we recommend taking a quick glance at CNN's photo gallery of the event.

There was a lot of grumbling in the press about foreign automakers not attending the show. But building experimental prototypes for TMS is expensive. And Japanese people don't buy imported cars, anyway.

Japanese automakers picked up the slack and offered an impressive array of electric and hydrogen-fueled prototypes in jolting chromatic schemes. Nissan unveiled electric car Leaf, planned for a 2010 roll-out, while Nissan's lean Landglider also promised to be zero-emission. Mitsubishi's i-Miev is equally eco-friendly, but everyone obsessed over the anti-stink seat abilities of the PX-Miev model instead.

All the big talk about 'zero emissions' may create a subtext of doom-and-gloom at Tokyo Motor Show, but don't fret: There are lots of attractive women in tight-fitting uniforms at every booth whose job is to turn you on ... to environmentally friendly cars. And if three-dimensional women aren't your thing, Honda's humanoid robot ASIMO is also on hand to lust over.
