Located on the grounds of Roppongi complex Tokyo Midtown, 21_21 Design Sight asks visitors to take a look into the future. Architect Tadao Ando certainly did when he designed the uniquely-formed building to have most of the interior space lying underground.

Design Sight’s three directors are each famous in their own right: fashion designer Issey Miyake, designer Taku Satoh and industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. Art, technology and design are constant themes of the space, interweaving to trigger new ideas about the future of human creativity. Artists involved in exhibitions are given little direction and have great freedom to create installations.

This becomes evident in the originality, inventiveness and thoughtfulness of the work presented. Highlight exhibitions have been XXIst Century Man directed by Issey Miyake, and Second Nature directed by Tokujin Yoshioka.

Stop by if you’re in desperate need of perspective on your day-to-day life or want to glimpse into the world of tomorrow.
