Otaku fan lends an unhelpful hand to idol-girl meet and greet

Handshake horror: everyone likes to connect with their fans, but only for so long

Tabloids such as Nikkan Sports are abuzz with reports that an obsessed fan refused to let go of the hand of one idol singer from collective AKB48 during a Sunday PR event held in downtown Tokyo. According to eyewitness reports, two staffers had to intercede during a handshake session to drag the tactile fan off.

It isn't clear which idol suffered the otaku deathgrip, but by all accounts the four girls at the event -- Minami Minegishi, Asuka Kuramochi, Kana Kobayashi and Natsumi Matsubara -- escaped with only emotional scars.

Was it worth it? We'll have to wait until the perpetrator brags on 2ch to find out.
