Mysterious organization buys Japanese island

In what sounds like the back story for a James Bond film, an unknown group has purchased an island off Kure, Hiroshima for Y=100 million

On February 9, Hiroshima Prefecture held a public bidding to sell an unhabited island off the city of Kure. The island -- with a 560m circumfrence and 7,600 m2 of area -- ended up going for a cool ¥100 million.

The last time the island was used was in World War II as a "disinfecting station." Sexy.

18 persons and organizations made bids, including wealthy individuals who wanted it for building private villas or wartime museums. They, however, were not willing to shell out anything close to ¥100 million.

So who was the lucky bidder? The winning company's name was not made public, although it is said to be involved in the "importation of industrial salt." This makes it either the most mundane company in Japan or the greatest cover for a secret spy organization ever.
