Hayden Panettiere visits Japan's most infamous dolphin killing spot
Hayden Panettiere -- once blonde -- has become a brunette all of a sudden. That is not what is raising eyebrows in Japan, however.Hayden Panettiere -- star of hit American TV show "Heroes" -- has hit Japanese shores with her towering boxer boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko. Her first destination? Not Tokyo Disneyland, nor Sensoji in Asakusa, nor the Shibuya scramble.
Instead of taking in the sites, Panettiere headed to the remote village of Taiji in Wakayama Prefecture to protest the local fisherman's yearly dolphin hunt -- made world famous thanks to Oscar-winning documentary "The Cove." She visited as spokeswoman for the "Save the Whales Again!" campaign.
Locals -- unofficially conducting a "Kill the Whales Again!" campaign -- were not particularly welcoming to the starlet, blocking her entrance to the town hall. According to Yahoo!, she had merely come to "peacefully come up with better ideas as to how to generate income and utilize the nature here." Now Taiji officials may never see the business development ideas outlined in the Power Point presentation she brought.
Panettiere came to Taiji in 2007, when she zoomed into the infamous dolphin-killing cove on a surfboard to protest the hunt. That stunt definitely was a hard act to follow, and we are sad to assume she came to Taiji by land vehicle. Maybe next time.
