Tokyo figures large in plans as Japan influence grows

James Kondo is about to make a lot of new friends in Japan.
We’ve written much in the past about the blooming Japanese love affair with Twitter, so it’s heartening to hear today of a healthy new arrival to the family in the shape of the company’s appointment of a Japanese Head Twit.

Strictly speaking, James Kondo is Twitter’s first international country manager and will be responsible for overseeing the growth of the social-networking behemoth as it shows its worth in post-March 11 Japan.

The Japanese and overseas media have widely reported on the influence exerted by the tweets of ordinary people after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters hit last month.

Kondo was previously a policy and communications advisor to the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan and brings with him experience at McKinsey & Company, Tokyo University and around 1,700 followers (so far).

As we’re ahead for now, we wonder if he’s interested in restarting that old race to a million followers with the CNNGo team on Twitter?
