If, like any true romantic, you’ve ever found the naked commercialism behind the business of typical modern wedding-planning in the least bit repugnant, then you’d best look away now if you don't want to get reacquainted with this afternoon’s lunch.

Japanese jewelry specialist The Best Surprise has so little regard for True Love, it’s pimping what it calls a Forced Engagement Kit that is says desperate single women can use to twist a few arms in a bid to march their chosen mates up the aisle.

Bring a shotgun

While not quite a shotgun wedding, the pressure brought to bear by the gear provided by The Best Surprise is sure to blast a typhoon into the sails of any normal young man.

The thinking is that the woman presents the prospective match as pretty much a fait accompli, brandishing an engagement ring, a real marriage certificate and a countdown clock (really) to impart that little extra shove toward the altar.

Naturally, prices vary depending on the ring selected -- The Best Surprise has plenty to choose from, of course -- as may results achieved by anyone underhand enough to employ something with the word “forced” attached to it.
