Best Sunday brunches in Tokyo

Nix the natto: It's time for omelets, pancakes and a stiff Bloody Mary

Like any upstanding Sunday-morning ritual, brunch is an institution to be revered and respected -- a leisurely weekend meal spent in good company, lingering over a little comfort food and recovering from the night before.

We love our rotten beans and raw seafood at certain times, but after a hard week, carbs, grease and a hair of the dog are definitely in order. Here's our pick of the best Sunday brunches in Tokyo.

Roti Roppongi

Tokyo
If it's comfort food you need, Roti Roppongi knows what works best.

This place enjoys a longstanding reputation for offering some of the best Sunday brunches in Tokyo. Served from 11:30 a.m to 5 p.m., the extensive American menu features classic brunch items such as omelets and pancakes in addition to plenty of standard dishes and tasty fried goodness.

The mimosas are made with fresh OJ and guests can register for the weekend brunch club, which grants a free brunch dish for every ¥15,000 spent.

The patio offers ample space for kids to run around, making it a favorite for families and tired parents. Generous portions and the ever-popular truffle fries won’t disappoint.

Two Rooms

Tokyo
If there's a better setting for drinking vodka with oysters, we don't know it.

The terrace at this Omotesando fine-dining venue in the Ao building keeps guests coming back for some of the best Sunday brunches in Tokyo. Try the Bloody Mary -- fiery and full of flavor, the secret is in the sauce. Two Rooms is proud of its in-house mix, which can also be sampled with vodka as an oyster shot: Just do it.

Brunch is about much more than the food, and for a cocktail-infused meal, this is the place. The cocktails don’t come cheap, however. Brunch runs 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes a set menu for ¥ 2,950 with two courses and coffee or tea.

The offerings extend beyond traditional egg-laden fare, but the signature Eggs Benedict is a standout on the menu.

Park Hyatt’s New York Grill

Tokyo
Lose yourself in the Hyatt's never-ending brunch spread.

Made famous by Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation,” this is the best hotel buffet brunch in Tokyo.

Other hotels offer similar brunch deals, but there’s something special about the combination of the food and the view from this 52nd-floor restaurant, where on clear days you can catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji.

The ¥6,600 menu grants you a glass of Champagne, coffee and tea, access to the appetizer and dessert buffets (which are enough to fill up on alone) and a choice of main course.

The menu selections rotate monthly, but expect a range of poultry, fish and, of course, beef dishes. We adore the ice cream station, where you can customize your own bowl of frozen delights as you savor one of the best Sunday brunches in Tokyo.
