Expertly prepared Cantonese cuisine makes Hei Fung Terrace one of food expert Melinda Joe's favorite Tokyo Chinese restaurants.
The quintessential expression are the steamed beef dumplings, which come hot and flavorful. The dough is the perfect consistency -- chewy, yet tender.
"You could easily devour a dozen of the silky textured steamed beef dumplings flavored with ginger and scallions," says Joe.
The gorgeous circular dining room at this Michelin award-winning restaurant invokes the misty gardens of ancient Suzhou, and the sepia-toned glamour of 19th-century Hong Kong. Wooden fixtures and silk pillows adorn private dining boxes along the back of the room.
The dumplings are a great warm-up for dinner. Chef Frankie Tang uses premium ingredients in his classically styled dishes.
Deep-fried taro puffs are given an upscale twist with tiny bits of abalone.
"Even the fried rice is exceptional," adds Joe. "Flecked with woody shiitake mushrooms and morsels of roast duck, it’s comforting and extravagant at the same time."
