Freshness Burger's new giant mushroom option
Viewed from far enough away, the Vegetable Burger Mushroom looks exactly like a giant wad of beef.Since October 10, Freshness Burger has been offering customers a brand new take on the vegetarian burger option. Instead of the soy-and-vegetable faux beef patty, Freshness is placing a giant mushroom -- about the size of two Whoppers rounded into a ball -- between the buns for its Vegetable Burger Mushroom.
According to Tokyo Walker, the fungi in question is the famed portobello mushroom -- which has long been used for these fake-beef purposes overseas but is somewhat new to the Japanese fast-food scene.
After a long saute and topped with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and a special Balsamic vinegar-based dressing, the Vegetable Burger Mushroom boasts a juiciness quotient on par with Freshness' classic beef version. And like the beef version, the burger will be perfectly sized -- if and only if you are a 150cm tall Japanese woman.
The Vegetable Burger Mushroom sells for ¥420 and debuts as the lowest calorie item on the menu at 282kcal. Vegetarians and dieters alike shall rejoice.
