Chinois
Chinois goes out of its way to support art patrons: Flash an opera or theater ticket and enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne. (Photo courtesy of Chinois)

Two things pop to mind when describing Tokyo's Japanese-French fusion restaurant, Chinois, in Shibuya: Nice wine and really nice wine. Decked with sommeliers pouring international vintages that will drop you to your knees, Chinois' eighth-floor wine selection will keep you -- and your credit card -- begging for more.

Ranging from $70 to $2,500, the wines Chinois offers lay claim to some of the best in the world. Yet the waitstaff delicately pour without a hint of snobbery or condescension. Add that to their signature dish of foie gras donburi, or a weekend champagne brunch (for ¥4,000-¥6,000) and you may never leave.

Chinois’ also has a sister establishment across town in Ginza.
