Tokyo's best cheap eat
Recommended: Meshiya's teishoku set

Forget guide book cliches.
NHK World reporter and Miele Guide contributor Ai Uchida says you don't need to stray off the beaten path to find good, affordable seafood. Tsukishima is the backyard of Tsukiji -- the biggest fish market in the world -- so it’s no surprise that Meshiya does the home cooking of retired fishermen.
"The popular teishoku sets include rice, miso soup and unlimited preserved side dishes," says Uchida.
When in season, a fluffy unagi teishoku with all the trimmings will cost you only about ¥900.
Open Monday - Saturday, 11 a.m.-2:15 p.m. (last order), 5-9 p.m. (last order). Closed Sunday and public holidays. Meshiya, 1-5-7 Tsukishima, Chuo-ku, tel. + 81 (0) 3 3534 0486
