Snack Nation: Georgia Maple Festa coffee
We assume that no one at the actual Olympics in Vancouver will have a place in their special athlete diet for this kind of coffee.Coca-Cola is a Worldwide Partner of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, so what better time for the beverage company's Japanese canned coffee brand Georgia to produce a Canadian tie-up product: Maple Festa. For this limited-edition product, the normal milky Georgia joe is mixed with real maple syrup.
(We will ignore for the moment that Vancouver is not a particularly important site of maple syrup production. Let's just say Georgia took flavor inspiration from the Canadian flag.)
The end result is a canned coffee exponentially sweeter than normal. Akin to dripping the final remains of your pancake plate into your coffee mug, Maple Festa is not so much the coffee that goes with dessert: It IS the dessert.
Special canned coffees tend to disappear overnight, but we assume Maple Festa will still be in stores when the Winter Olympic Games kick off February 12. Since most of the afternoon and evening events will be shown during the Tokyo morning, Georgia Maple Festa may be the sugar and caffeine rush needed to start a healthy day of TV viewing.
