Snack Nation: Fanta U.S.A HIPHOP Fruit Punch
"U.S.A" stands for the United States of America, not the town of Usa (宇佐) in Kyushu's Oita Prefecture. On January 18, my boys at Fanta dropped a new flavor on the streets: Fanta U.S.A HIPHOP Fruit Punch. This carbonated fruit punch combines five fruit juices. Representing, in order: apple, peach, apricot, cherry and guava.
Wait, wait, I should apologize for all this street slang learned from the Rap Dictionary. It's just that drinking this Fanta World soda got me all caught up in the spirit of American hip hop culture.
Now a lot of people are going to say, is this Fanta U.S.A HIPHOP Fruit Punch 'keeping it real'? Sadly, no. The bottle admits in no ambiguous terms that no actual fruit juice is used in the brew. This is less crunk than initially expected.
Drinking Fanta U.S.A HIPHOP Fruit Punch -- or at least, viewing the bottle -- will not make you go out and breakdance, wear large headphones or spray paint "U.S.A" on public property either. But with all the vandalism laws and the whole Futenma debate, that's a good thing. Just live that American gangsta street life vicariously through the fruit punch.
