The outdoor seating at Sign café in Aoyama is great in summer and allows beautiful views of the flood of taxis pouring through Gaienmae intersection. (Photo from Sign's webpage)

No café embodies the ultra-chic and pop Tokyo café experience like Sign. The chain is another stylish concept from producer Transit -- whose Office lounge/bar is another favorite.

Transit has now expanded beyond Sign’s original location in Gaienmae and opened other branches -- most famously, the always-crowded Sign Daikanyama (Daikanyama Station Bldg. 1F, 19-4 Daikanyama-cho, Shibuya-ku, tel. +81 (0) 3 3780 9570), perfectly located inside the station building.

The chain can thank its unique aesthetic appeal on graphic design from Groovisions and Shu-Thang Grafix, and an always funky selection of music playing in the background.

The menu is standard café fare but feels, ooooh about 2.5x cooler.
