Tokyo's best sake bar

Tokyo's best sake bar

Some say sake, some say nihonshu. Whatever you call it, these places serve it best

Recommended: Hasegawa Saketen

Hasegawa Saketen, Tokyo
A reminder of temple tradition with drums of sake at Hasegawa Sakaten.

Certified sake expert Etsuko Nakamura says Hasegawa Saketan hits all the right sake spots, inside and out.

“Just inside the JR Tokyo station, Hasegawa Saketan is the perfect place to sample trendy brands such as Juyondai from Yamagata or Dassai from Yamaguchi,"  says Nakamura.

Sake from the bar is also available at the shop next door. It opens at 7 in the morning, so if you're on a commute and the thought of booze for breakfast doesn't turn your stomach, this is your place.

Open Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Hasegawa Saketen, GRANSTA, Basement, JR Tokyo Station, 1-9-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, tel. +81 (0) 3 6420 3409, www.hasegawasaketen.com
