The Russell Hotel

It’s not the quietest hotel in Sydney, but it may well be one of the most atmospheric. The Russell is classic pub accommodation brought beautifully into the 21st century.

A recent renovation, still on the go at the time this listing was written, has only enhanced the appeal of this gorgeous little hotel smack dab in the middle of The Rocks.

The breakfast room, for instance, now does double-time as a wine bar. But the beautiful, individual rooms, each reflecting the original architecture and layout of this historic little joint, remain as bespoke and atmospheric as ever.

There’s a stunning rooftop area with amazing views of the harbor and city.

Luxury touches like fluffy robes and nice TVs combine with old-world touches such as windows that open.

But as mentioned, there will be noise. The Russell is on the city’s main thoroughfare, George Street, and while car traffic does quiet down at this end of town, The Rocks can be party central on certain nights of the week.

But hey, this is why the savvy travel with earplugs.
