Japan's most successful football club -- boasting Brazilian players -- promise an exciting night at the Sydney Football Stadium
Sydney FC at the SFSWill the sun set on Sydney FC's Champions League hopes?

While 2010 premiers Sydney FC experienced a disappointing A-League season, their AFC Champions League campaign is still alive tonight at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Bedecked in sky blue, their army of fans known as Sydney Cove will be in full voice for the must-win match against Japan’s most successful football club -- Kashima Antlers

It is Sydney FC's last home match of the league's group stages. Following two draws from their first two games, and with three tough away matches to follow, a win would be a huge boost to Sydney’s hopes of progressing in the competition.

If they lose, it could be the last AFC Champions League match in Sydney for some time.

Standing in their way is the Antlers. Since the J-League kicked off in 1993, Kashima have won the competition seven times. They also won three Emperor’s Cups.

Over the last two decades, various Brazilian soccer managers have bought style and success. Their current Brazilian manager, Oswaldo de Oliveira, boasts three Brazilians in his team -– who promise a Samba-style in Sydney tonight.

Sydney’s team contains some quality too, including the silky skills of playmaker Nicky Carle and the attacking verve of striker David Williams, who was signed on a short-term deal exclusively for the club’s AFC Champions League campaign.

This will bring attention to football in the harbor city that –- outside the Socceroos -- struggles against Rugby Union, Rugby League and Australian Rules.
