The Civic Hotel threw open its doors during World War II. By the 1980s the art deco Civic Hotel was firmly on the Oz Rock circuit and the likes of INXS and Midnight Oil played there regularly.

Another few decades on and the three level Civic has carved itself a new niche, this time by catering to a more mature clubbing crowd. Saturdays in the Civic Underground are called Adult Disco and the mostly 25 to 35 year old crowd take their music seriously  -- the sound system is one of the finest in town.

International DJs are a regular fixture of Adult Disco and the music policy is mostly disco, house and techno music.

Friday nights range from deep tech house to R&B.

On the street level -- above the Civic Underground -- the tiled walls and white booths of the saloon bar weld with red lighting to cater for a sophisticated after-work drink. On level one of the Civic Hotel there is a function space and an outdoor terrace, with a Saturday night R&B night targeted at Asians.
