Lao Airlines starts flights to Singapore
Vientiane's Golden Stupa, one of the most important monuments in Laos.
Good morning, Vientiane!
The capital of Laos is now easily accessible from the Lion City with the launch of Lao Airlines' thrice-weekly service between Singapore and Vientiane.
The addition of Vientiane means Singapore is now directly connected to all nine of its ASEAN neighbors.
The new service is a boost to relations between Singapore and Laos.
Singapore is among Lao's top 10 foreign investors in its manufacturing and hospitality sectors.
According to e-Travel Blackboard, in the first nine months of 2011, bilateral trade between the two countries saw a substantial growth of 40 percent year-on-year to reach approximately US$29 million (S$37.8 million).
For leisure travelers, Vientiane is rich with many Buddhist and colonial architecture sights.
It is also home to many ancient temples and a popular jumping-off point to neighboring provinces, and UNESCO World Heritage sites, Luang Prabang and the Vat Phou temple complex.
The popular, and mysterious, Plain of Jars is expected to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in the near future.
Lao Airlines will operate its brand-new A320 aircraft in a two-class configuration with a total of 142 seats.
The service will depart Vientiane on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 3:05 p.m., arriving at Changi Airport at 6:30 p.m. on the same day. The return flight will depart Singapore at 7:40 p.m. and arrive in Vientiane at 9:05 p.m.
