Mary, Harry and Wyndham bed down in Singapore

With the flood of hotels coming from the two integrated resorts, is there really room for more? These local businesses are banking on it, diversifying their offerings by opening up spanking new multi-million dollar complexes.

Mary Chia's Hotel Culture

There really is something about Mary. Local wellness provider Mary Chia, better known for its beauty and slimming services, is setting up an integrated resort. They've paid S$20 million for three properties on Mosque Street that will be converted into a combined hotel, lifestyle and wellness center that's dubbed Hotel Culture.

There will also be a food and beverage business on the site, which will be managed by businessman Lee Boon Leng, the son-in-law of executive chairman Mary Chia. The 92-room integrated hotel, which is to emerge from the four-storey conservation shophouses, is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year. Mary Chia chief executive Wendy Ho said the property in the heart of the Chinatown heritage zone would charge between S$150 and S$180 per night and benefit from the tourist flow generated by the integrated resorts.

The Club hotel by Harry's

Forget Tom and Dick, it's Harry we need to keep our eyes on. Making its foray into the boutique hotel business is Harry's Holdings, which operates the chain of Harry's Bars. Its flagship hotel The Club will open on Ann Siang Road in late April this year.

Similar to Mary Chia's hotel and New Majestic Hotel in Chinatown, The Club hotel is converted from a row of shophouses. As well as 22 rooms, each with a unique layout and tailored artwork, it will have a rooftop skybar with an al fresco deck, a café, a terrace bar and a tapas corner.

Ramada and Day hotels by Wyndham Hotels

The Wyndham Hotel Group is also joining the fray in Singapore with the development of two hotels: the 391-room Ramada Singapore at Zhongshan Park and the 405-room Days Hotel Singapore at Zhongshan Park in Balestier Road, just opposite Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.

The 17-story Ramada Singapore at Zhongshan Park will include a full service restaurant, fitness center, swimming pool, business center and more than 600 square meters of meeting space, while the 14-story Days Hotel Singapore at Zhongshan Park will feature amenities including a full service restaurant and fitness center. This will be the first Days Inn property to be managed by Wyndham Hotel Group. The company has a managed portfolio of nearly 30 hotels.
