There are not many folk art studios in Singapore. But Heartroom Gallery is one that you might want to get to know.

By virtue of its location on the ground floor of a HDB flat in the Cambridge Road heartland, you’d to drive or take a taxi here.

But it’s well worth the journey because the lady at the helm is Mei Ho, the aunty-in-law of Chow Yuen Fatt; a feisty and spirited lady with snow-white skin and barely a touch of make-up.

Unbeknownst to many, Mei has been dishing out folk art lessons to adults and kids from an office space in Goldhill Plaza for more than a decade and has only moved to a shop-fronting location at Cambridge Road about 2 years ago.

If folk art is not exactly down your alley, opt for one of many other art courses offered here (taught by external parties): manga, sketching, Chinese brush painting and parchment craft.
