Golden Mile Complex: The best tom yum and som tam in town
Where to find Thailand in Singapore -- complete with great food, Singha and a rocking good time
By Eddie Tee 21 September, 2009Fish sauce, gaudy signboards, Singha beer bottles and flashing smiles: it’s just like being in Bangkok, except confined within Golden Mile Complex’s four walls.

This is where everything Thai -- native foods, groceries, CDs, local beers and more -- is for sale.
Go in the evenings when things pick up. Grab a seat at any food stall on the ground floor (avoid the red-lit shops as they're of a seedier nature) and get your fill of tom yum, som tam (papaya salad), khao niao (sticky rice), and barbequed meats while doing some people watching.
At night, head into a disco for live performances by bands imported from Thailand. A rocking good time is guaranteed amongst jugs of Singha beer.
Archi-buff Note: Golden Mile Complex was once lauded by noted architects for its modernist mega-structure design where shops, entertainment and apartments were all housed within one structure.
