Becoming the next Internet superstar just got easier with the launch of YouTube Singapore at www.youtube.com.sg.

The new Singapore YouTube localized service which launched on Thursday aims to help users find local and global videos most relevant to the city.

For the average user, this means not having to wade through YouTube's deluge of videos. It is estimated 48 hours of video are uploaded on YouTube every minute, and over eight years of content uploaded every day.

The new service also allows creative Singaporeans to find more than just fame on YouTube.

Its revenue-generating option targeted at content creators means content no longer has to be given away for free.

YouTube currently monetizes more than 3 billion video views per week globally.

"Through localising YouTube in Singapore, the site will deliver more of the content Singaporeans want to see, and we hope the world will continue to discover the amazing culture and talent that exists in Singapore today," said Adam Smith, director of Product Management, YouTube (Asia-Pacific).

At the launch, popular bloggers such as mrbrown, Xiaxue and YouTube star Ling Kai were singled out.

YouTube has partnered with media companies such as Interactive SG, Valleyarm/Music Services Asia, World Sport Group, Warner Music Group, Refinery Media and Oak3 to allow easier distribution of content.

A licensing agreement signed with the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) allows local music artists to be part of the YouTube Partner Program and earn revenue on YouTube.

All interested content creators may sign up for the YouTube Partner Program at www.youtube.com/creators/partner.html

Users can visit the Singapore site by choosing "Singapore" at the bottom of the YouTube.com homepage or by going to www.youtube.com.sg
