Twestival Singapore 2010 -- Twittering, meeting and giving a lot of love for good

It's a night of loud cheers, many beers and of course, rampant Twittering as people flocked to the cause of Twestival Singapore

It's funny if you stop to think about how a simple micro-blogging tool like Twitter has brought people from all walks of life together. And this past March 25, the gathering power of Twitter is nowhere more evident than at Brewerkz Riverside Point, where Twestival Singapore 2010 was in full swing.

With laptops and mobile phone out in force, a make-shift photo booth in the back and pints of foamy beers sloshing their way around the private room, the local Twitter community was doing their bit to raise funds for Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organization dedicated to reducing suffering and ending extreme poverty.

From Sarah Chong from social media site Penn Olson, TwestivalSG 2010 raised a total of US$6112.41, putting Singapore among the top ten nations in the total funds raised and top three for the amount raised per 1000 inhabitants. Over 160 people turned up at Brewerkz, among them numerous sponsors and supporters who donated money, prizes, time and energy to man the donation booths and run the event.

Radio personality Joe Augustin hosted TwestivalSG 2010 as emcee for the night, while local musicians Jack and Rai as well as Deborah and Thomas kept the crowd cheery and rowdy with their performances. One very sporting Strait Times reporter (who shall remain anonymous but very much appreciated -- you know who you are) single-handedly raised S$375 with an inspired albeit fully clothed exotic dance.
