Tony Leung cast to play Lee Kuan Yew in '1965' flick

According to AsiaOne, Tony Leung Chiu Wai will play the role of hard-talking, take-no-prisoners, former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew (LKY).
The movie will be jointly-produced by Homerun pictures and We Pictures, and directed jointly by Hong Kong’s Peter Chan and Singapore’s Lee Thean-jeen.
Inspired by the tumultuous political events of 1965, the movie will chronicle Singapore's founding father's struggle for the independence of Singapore, showcasing the 90 days of turmoil, the ethnic strife and the political struggle which led to the foundation of modern Singapore in 1965.
Produced at a cost of S$6.08 million dollars, Leung will not be the only A-list star; among the cast are Maggie Cheung -- we assume she'll play LKY's late wife Kwa Geok Choo -- and Julianne Moore.

The film, which according to the Homerun Asia website, will be produced “in the same vein as political thrillers such as ‘Munich’ and ‘Empire of the Sun’" and is planned for release before Singapore's National Day 2012.
Our only advice for Leung is to get those tear ducts ready because he's going to have put on quite a bawl, when as Lee Kuan Yew he announces the separation from Malaysia and the full independence of Singapore.
