Health: Age doesn't matter, but size does
Sri. Srinivas Suresh Kamal, better known as Master Kamal to his students, was one of the master practitioners who led the Yoga by the Sea event over the weekend. They couldn't be more different in nature, but both set new records during the weekend. Yoga by the Sea saw the most number of people doing yoga together, while the 30th Singapore Masters Athletics Annual Track and Field Championships had a record turnout of 220 athletes taking part, including a 93-year-old man from Thailand.
Size does matterTouted as "the first mass yoga workout at Singapore's most popular beachfront" (in East Coast Park), Yoga by the Sea earned itself a place in the Singapore Book of Records for the most number of people doing yoga together -- 2,068 participants, breaking the previous record of "just" 1,799 participants set in 2006.
The mass workout was led by yoga masters Kamal from Hong Kong (creator and founder of Kryoga) and Saumik Bera from Singapore (chief advisor and principal master of Real Yoga), and hosted by actress Michelle Chong and Love 97.2FM deejay Lee-Lian Chua.
Age is no limitOn Sunday, a record number of 220 athletes from Singapore, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand took part in the 30th Singapore Masters Athletics Annual Track and Field Championships. The event only allows those aged 35 years and above to participate, and of those, the oldest athlete was a 93-year-old man from Thailand.
Krishnan Haridas, an 80-year-old competitor in the men's 3000m walk, said to ChannelNewsAsia, "I've taken part in competitions in many countries. I'm still running. I train five times a week. I usually go to the Serangoon Stadium. I've got two trainers to advise and guide my training sessions. So, I've got no injuries and I'm perfectly healthy."
Track and field events included sprint and long distance running, shot put and long jump for both men and women.
Now that's aging gracefully for you.
