31 May, 2011Universal Studios Singapore has finally, officially opened its doors.
While the theme park has been operating since early 2010, May 27 saw its official opening with a grand procession of Asian superstars -- Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Vicki Zhao, and former "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul -- lending star power to the event.
According to a report by Channel News Asia, this is Abdul's first visit to Singapore in more than 20 years. Excited to be in Singapore, the ex-"American Idol" judge walked the red carpet along with movie stars Li, Cheung and Zhao.
Local Mediacorp stars like Singapore actresses Michelle Chia, Zhou Ying and Jade Seah also turned up for the opening.
Missing the festivities was ex-California governor and "Terminator" star Arnold Schwarzenegger who pulled out citing personal problems. Another no-show was "American Idol" 2004 winner Fantasia Barrino, who was replaced at the last minute by Kimberly Caldwell.
Universal Studios Singapore is the first Universal theme park in Southeast Asia and features 21 rides and shows, including the world's first Madagascar-themed ride as well as the Battlestar Galactica duelling coasters.
