The 2009 winner of the Singapore Open shows off his questionable sense of style
By Larry Loh, Singapore Editor 3 November, 2009Despite a spat of bad weather, the Barclays Singapore Open 2009 drew in the crowds with big name players like Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els taking to the course at Sentosa Golf Club. The unexpected champ, however, was Englishman Ian Poulter, who won his first European Tour event in three years by just a single shot over China's Liang Wenchong.
It was a roller coaster ride for the Ryder Cup star, who saw his early lead wiped out, but rallied on the final day to clinch the Singapore trophy.
But not all the attention was on his chips and drives -- Poulter's outfits got increasingly more colorful as the tournament progressed, starting from a simple black-and-purple ensemble to a color-coordinated appearance in pink shoes, trousers and shirt on the final day.
Already known for his flamboyant style, Poulter made headlines five years ago when he walked out of the Royal Troon clubhouse for the Ayrshire Open in England in a pair of Union Jack trousers.
"The better the clothes and the better I look, the better I play," he told the UK's "Mirror." "I feel more confident when I look in the mirror."
You can see his own line of clothing here. Never let it be said that golf is a boring sport.
