Chippendales in Singapore will be flirty but tasteful
Ever wonder if they catch colds on stage? The name just conjures up images of hot man bodies, erotic male dancing and hordes of screaming lady fans -- the Chippendales dancers are coming to Singapore for limited performances at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).
With their signature cuff-and-collar outfits, this will be the production's first time in Singapore and their first performance in Asia in 20 years. Featuring everything from men in uniform to dusty cowboys, the Chippendales phenomenon, synonymous with ladies' entertainment, will no doubt be heavily commercialized. Hollywood even got in on the act with one badly made movie about them in 2001. But that doesn't mean it won't be worth a look.
Speaking to the Straits Times, RWS spokesman Robin Goh said that as International Women's Day falls in March, "we wanted to do something specially for the women. I think the Singapore women audiences are ready for male revue shows, judging from the response to Thunder From Down Under last year."
Strange way to celebrate a day marking the "economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future," methinks.
Goh also dismissed concerns that the performances might give Resorts World a sleazy image. Instead, it would be "a very professional performance'" comprising "a balance of flirty fun and tasteful teasing (with) just a little bit of skin showing."
Men are also welcome, by the way.
