Changi goes eco with a new display of what environmentally friendly air travel should be like
CAG-IATA Environment ExhibitionThe CAG-IATA Environment Exhibition at Changi Airport Terminal 3.

For airport buffs and aviation enthusiasts, you might want to check out the new environment-focused exhibition at Changi Airport's Terminal 3. It's a joint display by the Changi Airport Group and International Air Transport Association (IATA), the airline industry trade organization, to highlight aviation’s commitment to the environment.

IATA DG and CEO, Giovanni Bisignani, and CAG CEO, Lee Seow Hiang, tours the Environment Exhibition
The displays guide visitors through a pseudo-journey of the history of aviation from the beginnings of powered flight to the multi-billion dollar global industry that it is today. There are interesting factoids embedded throughout. Did you know that loading just one kilogram less on every flight would save 170 million kilogram of fuel annually? Or that a continuous descent approach (a method by which aircraft approach airports prior to landing that is designed to reduce fuel consumption and noise) would reduce carbon emissions by up to 630kg per landing?

The exhibition format takes the form of a futuristic aircraft engine which also covers what technologies are being developed, such as algae-based biofuels, solar power and fuel cells that could provide the building blocks for developing a carbon emission-free plane in the next 50 years.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s Director-General and Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is located at Changi’s Terminal 3 Departure Hall and will run until February 28.
