Just Cause 2: The game with a bizarre Singapore twang

The title character in Just Cause 2, Bolo Santosi, has become legendary, but only because of her strange Singaporean accent

Sounds familiar? We think so too, but for some players, it's highly exotic. YouTube video from mistabrown.

Just Cause 2
In the world of video games, Bolo Santosi, the villainous protagonist of Just Cause 2, is a legend. Not in a Lara Croft way, but for the over-the-top accent she puts on throughout the game. CNNGo contributor mrbrown put together a little clip of the cutaway scenes, and firmly declared that he did not make this stuff up; it's all for real. And it's not some April Fool's joke.

mrbrown noted that "Bolo Santosi is quickly becoming a cult figure in the gaming world, with her terrible voice acting, campy dialogue and the all-powerful Singaporean accent. In fact she sounds like a Masters of the Sea reject (a very old Singapore TV series known for its badness)."

And his readers (including us) agree. Benjamin commented on mrbrown's site that "this should be part of the dialogue -- 'My name is Bolo Santosi and I will CRUUUUUSH YOU LIKE A COCKROACHHHHH' (a famous line from Masters of the Sea). Bolo Santosi is Margaret Chan. I swear."

moonlightaffairs thinks that the programmers are trying to make Bolo Santosi's accent sound like it's from some Southeast Asia third world country. "Unfortunately or miraculously, it sounds exactly like the Singapore accent!"

For the life of us, the voice sounds strangely familiar but we just can't place it. Any guesses or comments, drop us a line below.
