Battlestar Galactica reopens after 11 months

The headline draw of Universal Studios has finally reopened after almost a year of repairs

Battlestar Galactica
Time to rock and roll again with the Battlestar Galactica ride, let's hope all the faults have been fixed.
After 11 months, the gut-twisting Battlestar Galactica ride at Universal Studios has finally reopened to the public.

The ride that travels to a height of 140 feet and up to speeds of 90km/h, with riders given the option of being suspended upside down (Cyclone) or seated (Human), was grounded in March 2010, a week after the park opened when it failed a routine test.

A seat was said to have come detached from one of the ride's trains.

According to a report by Channel News Asia the fault was attributed to fatigue cracks detected in a welded component of the seat's support structure. All welded components for the seats have since been replaced with a new machined part.

While it is comforting to know that thousands of simulated rides using water dummies have been conducted to test for the ride's safety and longevity, the question remains, how keen are people to get back on the world's tallest duelling roller-coaster?

"I missed my chance the last time and I'm quite glad I did," says Janice Tan. "Now that it's been fixed, I'll be up for trying it, but maybe give it another three to six months, in case there are still some teething problems."

The Battlestar Galactica is just one of the park's 24 rides and attractions, which includes the much-touted Transformers ride which will be launched later this year.
