Wendy's: Got any room for squares?
Will Wendy's be the next big thing in Singapore?Singaporeans are suckers for novelty items. Sure, many of us may have seen advertisements of Wendy’s the fast food chain in American magazines or have heard about it from friends living in the States. It is now here, right smack in the Central Business District at Lau Pa Sat. How has the response been so far?
Judging by the throngs of queues snaking around the restaurant, very good. According to grunt72 in the Makansutra forums, there were only two counters in the small restaurant. However, he approves of the food as he claims that the baked potatoes and quarter pounders are a "must try" with the meat being juicier and better than the ones in McDonald’s and Burger King’s Whopper.
The buzz on the SGClub forums has been a little bit more conservative though. Guys like Infinite and shypineapple are hoping for a fast food experience that will not disappoint but most of them are still hoping for the return of A&W.
Can Wendy’s hold a candle to the impression the root beer floats and coney dogs made on Singapore by A&W? A good start would be not pulling a number on us anytime soon like the Great Root Bear of the ninties.
What do you think? Will Wendy's last or just poof into the smoke again? Drop us a line.
