Big is beautiful -- Singapore's first plus-size beauty pageant

Are you a fan of Mika's "Big Girl (You are beautiful)" song, with a body and personality to match? Singapore's finally getting its own and first ever plus-size beauty pageant -- to qualify for the Miss & Ms Amazing pageant, contestants must weigh at least 80kg and have a big personality and confidence to go with it.

The contest is open to both single and married women, and to date, has attracted 40 contestants aged between 19 and 43 since registration began in February. Beverly Tan, founder of TKS and Sons (organizers of the contest), said to the Straits Times that "this pageant will redefine the meaning of beauty. There are many good-looking plus-size women in Singapore and this is a chance for them to show people they have what it takes to be a beauty queen."

TKS and Sons, which also organizes the Miss Teen Singapore, Little Miss Singapore and Elite Mrs Singapore contests, developed the plus-size pageant to give big women a platform to show off their beauty.
