Singapore's F-15 fighter planes finally come home
The F-15SG -- it's faster, more powerful and well, cooler than anything else Singapore has in its arsenal.1st F-15SG jets in action
Pop in that Top Gun DVD, put on those Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses and watch the skies -- Singapore's first squadron of F-15SG fighter planes are finally returning to home base, five years after they were purchased by the military.
According to the Straits Times, Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean described the F-15SG's homecoming as a 'significant milestone' in the development of the air force's advance fighter capabilities, saying "the F-15SG is a major enhancement to Singapore's air defense capability and will also play a significant role in the SAF's overall operations. The F-15SG squadron will increase the SAF's ability to deal decisively with future threats and meet our critical operational needs."
The Boeing F-15SGs, which are manned by the 149 Squadron, will join the fighter group under the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) Air Combat Command. Officers and specialists from the 149 squadron had been training in the United States at the Mountain Home Air Force Base since last May to operate and maintain the twin-seater jets, which are considered one of the top multi-role fighter planes in the world, and can fly farther and carry more bombs than other fighters in the RSAF.
Keep your eyes peeled during the coming National Day Parade in August, as it's almost certain the F-15SG planes will make their appearance then.
