The town of Punggol will be developed into Singapore's first eco-town and used as a 'living laboratory' to try out innovative green features, such as energy, water and waste management, as part of the government's sustainable development blueprint.
The Straits Times reported that right from the planning stage, Punggol has been designed to promote sustainable living through innovations such as smaller, more intimate estates with common greenery, a wide range of housing with supporting facilities, and an integrated public transport network with enhanced accessibility for residents.
One of the key green initiatives for Punggol is the introduction of a waterway spanning across the town, and the Housing Development Board (HDB) is also pushing ahead with its solar test-bedding project with the installation of solar panels.
