Google searches show lack of interest in YOG game action

As the Youth Olympic Games draw to a close tonight, Singaporeans appear to have been more interested in everything surrounding the YOG game action

According to Google, Singaporeans have shown more interest in things surrounding, but not actually a part of, the actual YOG game action. We're not judging (okay, maybe just a little) but according to Google, who’ve shortlisted the top 10 fastest-rising YOG terms, these are the YOG things you really cared about.

1. yog food poisoning -- As a nation of food lovers we were really interested in the fate of the 21 YOG volunteers who reported cases of food poisoning on the 15 August.

2. yog tickets -- Naturally, our kiasu (scared to lose) nature came out to play. Apparently members of the local public have been in a flurry since tickets to the YOG were said to have sold out last week.

3. yog soccer -- Singaporeans love football, why exactly, well that’s another topic for speculation. In this case, we showed our support (via web searches) for the under-15 football team who reached the semi-finals when they beat Montenegro. Unfortunately, we lost the silver when Haiti beat us 2-0.

4. yog closing ceremony -- It’s happening tonight at The Float@Marina Bay and we’re expecting massive fireworks, don’t disappoint us!

5. sean kingston -- Do we not have enough beautiful girls in Singapore to entice the reggae singer to show up for the opening ceremony?

6. yog road closure -- Singaporeans hate being inconvenienced so it is no surprise they were more concerned about temporary road closures than say, our first silver medal (see point 8) -- sorry Rainer!

7. yog flame -- Who doesn’t love an Olympic flame?

8. rainer ng -- You’ve got to give it to the 17-year-old who clinched the country’s first silver medal. All it took was 26.45 seconds. And no, we’re not going to bring up what a difference .09 of a second could have made.

9. yog village -- The largest ‘hotel’ for the YOG, Nanyang Technological University transformed itself into a home for over 5,000 local and foreign athletes and team officials.

10. watch yog online -- Why watch it in a stadium or on television when you can catch all the action from your trusty laptop? http://www.youtholympicgames.org has been one busy site for the past week.
